Entertainment : Virtual digital humans are becoming deeply embedded in China’s film, television, and short-drama industries. SunWei, founder of Shenzhen-based FeixiangUniverse Gongzuoshi (FeixiangUniverse工作室), led a team that used the facial likeness of 38-year-old veteran actor Chen Yilong as a foundation, capturing his expressions through authorized real-person data collection to generate a virtual digital human, which then “starred” in an AI-generated film set in the Tang Dynasty — an approach designed to avoid the homogeneity problem caused by biases in AI training data. National Radio and Television Administration data shows that in the first eight months of this year, 430,000 micro short dramas went online in China, with AI-produced dramas accounting for more than 90 percent of that total. Meanwhile, a platform called “AI Yiren Ku (AI艺人库)” launched by iQIYI claims to have attracted more than 100 entertainers and to be capable of boosting a real actor’s annual output from four productions to fourteen; however, the studios of Zhang Ruoyun and Yu Hewei, as well as Wang Churan’s fan support club, all issued urgent statements denying that they had ever authorized the use of their AI likenesses, triggering widespread public skepticism, and iQIYI shares subsequently fell. AI actors “Lin Xiyan” and “Qin Lingyue,” launched by Yaoke Media, were exposed by netizens as having facial features that blend the characteristics of multiple real celebrities, sending the story to the top of trending searches. The recent public appearance of veteran actor Chen Baoguo also prompted online commentary comparing him to AI face-swapping and digital-human technology, with observers noting that such tools cannot replicate the raw intensity he brings to a role — famously described as “stuffing buttons into his eyes.” In the virtual idol space, Zhongshi Beifang (中视北方), a majority-owned subsidiary of China Television Media under China Media Group, used three-dimensional animation technology to produce the China Media Group virtual character “Xiao 8”; the “Hong Yuzhou (虹宇宙)” app under Tianxia Xiu (天下秀) has incubated virtual IP influencers such as “Yu Tai Xian” and “Tiancai Xiaoxiongmao.” AI-native digital singer “Yuri” (尤栗) — incubated by Guyu Qiushi’s AI.TALK and generated end-to-end through ByteDance’s “Ji Meng AI (即梦AI)” multimodal model — shared the stage in Shanghai with Ji Meng AI (即梦AI)’s official virtual human “Aura” on a 99-meter giant screen at a live concert, performing “Ye Shanghai” together and releasing a fully AI-generated music video, marking the first time an AI-native idol has moved from online platforms to a large-scale offline live performance.
Marketing : Digital human anchors and virtual guides are being widely deployed across livestream e-commerce, cultural tourism promotion, and exhibition marketing scenarios in China. In digital rural construction, AI digital human anchors provide round-the-clock coverage of e-commerce livestream rooms, promoting distinctive rural agricultural products and showcasing intangible cultural heritage handicrafts. At the 23rd China–ASEAN Expo, multilingual digital human anchors brought goods to market in e-commerce livestream rooms, while tourism exhibition areas introduced AI digital human hosts, real-time multilingual translation, and intelligent itinerary planning to drive cultural tourism digital transformation.
