Zhejiang Zhongnan Animation Co., Ltd. (浙江中南卡通股份有限公司), Zoland Animation, is one of China’s established animation majors — founded 2 June 2004 in Hangzhou’s Binjiang district under chairman Wu Jianrong (吴建荣) as part of the Zhongnan animation group, a representative enterprise of the national culture-export base with an international catalogue reaching back to Zheng He’s Voyages and early Cannes appearances.
Its digital-human work centres on a holographic AI Su Dongpo: the “old mayor of Hangzhou” character built from its 2024 production The Story of Su Dongpo and Hangzhou (苏东坡与杭州的故事), combining a large language model, AIGC generation and multimodal interaction inside a holographic interaction pod so that visitors converse with the poet-statesman — a character China Central Radio’s coverage of the 22nd China International Animation Festival described drawing crowds at the company’s booth, and which reached version 3.0 at CICAF 2025 after a year of conversational training. The Su Dongpo digital-human holographic pod won a Zhejiang digital-trade innovation-application case selection in 2024, was exhibited at the fourth and fifth Global Digital Trade Expos, and the company has said it plans further historical-figure digital humans.
