Zhejiang University (浙江大学) sits on the research supply side of China’s digital-human chain, and at its highest officially recognised level: it is a co-completing unit, together with FaceUnity (相芯科技) and one other organisation, of the project “智能化三维数字人制作关键技术及应用” that won a second-class 2025 National Science and Technology Progress Award at the July 2026 ceremony in the Great Hall of the People — key technology for intelligent 3D digital-human production spanning single-view modeling, cascaded-regression video-driven facial interaction and physics-plus-data-driven real-time simulation, with 89 invention patents and 30 software copyrights behind it.
The award formalises a long collaboration: the university co-established the ZJU-FaceUnity Joint Laboratory of Intelligent Graphics (浙江大学-相芯科技智能图形计算联合实验室) in Hangzhou, directed by Professor Zhou Kun (周昆), focused on XR, digital-human research and graphics. Its Computer Innovation Technology Research Institute incubated the AI-virtual-human company Niren Intelligent Technology, and digital humans appear in its own public life too — the AI digital human 滨兵 carried red-culture education content at a 2026 event involving the university.
