The Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism (云南省文化和旅游厅), which also carries the name Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics (云南省文物局), is the Yunnan provincial government department for culture and tourism.
On China Tourism Day, 19 May 2022, it brought Caiyun (彩云), Yunnan’s first virtual digital human, onto its official Douyin account as the province’s digital cultural tourism promoter; Caiyun was designed and developed by Yunnan Net (云南网). Under its guidance the Yunnan Provincial Cultural Center built “Departing for Fun Yunnan” (出发趣云南), billed as China’s first cultural-tourism metaverse platform, on the Yunnan Public Culture Cloud, using AI, digital humans and cloud rendering for multi-user digital identities; it was unveiled in Dali in May 2023 and shown at the China–South Asia Expo that August. In July 2023 Yunnan Tengyun, operator of “One Phone, Tour Yunnan”, launched “AI Tour Yunnan” (AI游云南) under the department’s guidance, described as China’s first provincial tourism large-model application.
