Xinjiang Institute of Technology (新疆理工学院), in Wensu County, Aksu, is the developer of the Silk Road Aesthetic Education (丝路美育) metaverse digital human, one of the more educationally specific digital human deployments in Chinese higher education: a 3D virtual digital human teacher, rendered with generative AI and driven by a large language model backend, that serves as the primary instructional presence of the institute’s Art Appreciation (美术鉴赏) course rather than a supplementary tool. The system was built by a course team led by Li Xiaoxi (李小玺) of the humanities school, modelled on the course’s own teaching team, over a four-month pipeline of image capture, high-fidelity 3D modelling and light-field reconstruction, voice synchronisation and micro-lecture synthesis, with a first batch of eight chapters and fifty-three lessons totalling more than eight hundred minutes of digital human micro-lectures. The course went live on the XuetangX (学堂在线) platform in March 2025 as that platform’s first full-chain digital human art-appreciation MOOC. The project was selected into the 2025 Metaverse Typical Cases list published jointly by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other ministries — one of only three entries from Xinjiang, and a named typical digital human case — and had earlier been recognised by the Ministry of Education’s Online Education Research Center as a demonstration course of its third Tuojin Programme (拓金计划) batch.
