Tianjin University (天津大学), on Weijin Road in Tianjin’s Nankai district, put one of 2024’s most widely reported teaching digital humans into a lecture hall.
On 2 April 2024, at the first class of the power-system fundamentals course at its Peiyangyuan campus, Professor Liu Yanli (刘艳丽) introduced a “virtual professor”: a full-process AI teaching assistant (全过程全环节AI助教) developed with iFlytek, made up of a “digital teacher” — a virtual digital human modelled on her own likeness, which generates lecture videos from her course materials and presents itself to students as her digital assistant — and a question-answering large model. The university has also offered digital-human mock interviews to students as part of its career guidance.
