Southern Metropolis Daily (南方都市报社), in Guangzhou, publishes the daily 《南方都市报》 and is the developer of the 南都N视频 news app, and it runs digital humans of its own under the name 南都数智人, among them 小N and 岭梅香.
In May 2023 it introduced 岭梅香, nicknamed 香香, as a new presenter for 南方都市报 and N视频; she was billed as the first digital human of the Bay Area’s private museums and appeared with the paper’s documentary series 《探宝觅踪——寻找湾区民间文化力量》. In September 2023 the 南都数智人 entry from 南方都市报 and N视频 was named an outstanding case of metaverse technology application at the China Newspaper Association’s first press-media metaverse conference. The paper also reports on the sector, including investigations into fake digital-human endorsements in live commerce.
