Sichuan Daily Press Group (四川日报报业集团), the provincial party-newspaper group registered as a public institution at 70 Hongxing Middle Road in Chengdu, operates what the People’s Daily research institute’s 2023 content-technology typical cases called the country’s largest digital-reporter matrix, through its flagship digital platform Chuanguan News (川观新闻). The first digital reporter, Xiaoguan (小观), launched in September 2022 as the group’s first “metaverse digital reporter” alongside the Chuanguan News 9.0 client upgrade; a first batch of 20 digital reporters went on duty in September 2023, growing into a “1+40” matrix in which reporters complete a digital-twin capture once and then generate broadcast videos by feeding text or audio into the group’s 数智人平台. Recorded digital-human maker Shiyou Technology appears among the technology providers behind Xiaoguan.
Xiaoguan received a Digital Technology Application Innovation Excellence Case award, the 川观新闻数字记者 is listed on the 2025 national metaverse typical cases, and the digital reporters have fronted coverage from provincial party-congress reporting to big-data conferences — a provincial media group carrying digital humans as a standing part of how its journalism is produced and delivered.
