Shanghai No.1 Social Welfare Institute (上海市第一社会福利院) is a municipal public elderly-care institution run by the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, at 465 Wanping South Road in Xuhui District. With Shanghai Shuaiqian Information Technology (上海帅签信息科技有限公司) it built digital companions personally customised for residents of its dementia-care unit: each digital human reproduces the appearance and voice of the resident’s own caregivers, and is built on a general large model layered with the institute’s experience in cognitive-impairment care, giving residents a familiar conversation partner rather than a generic chatbot. The project won a bronze award at the 2026 Shanghai elderly-care technology innovation competition.
