Shandong University (山东大学) is one of China’s foundational institutions of anatomical digital human science. Its Institute of Sectional Anatomy and Digital Human (断层解剖与数字人研究院), led by Professor Liu Shuwei (刘树伟) at the Baotuquan campus, had both its High-Definition Digital Human Virtual Anatomy Table System and its Digital Human High-Definition Tomography Three-Dimensional Printing Model certified as reaching international advanced level by the China Anatomy Society in January 2021, and the institute’s colour atlas of continuous transverse sectional digital human anatomy (《数字人连续横断层解剖学彩色图谱》) won a Shandong press-and-publication award in 2022. The virtual anatomy table, which reconstructs a real human body into more than seventeen thousand anatomical layers for medical teaching, was built by the university’s School of Basic Medical Sciences and Qilu Medical College together with Shandong Digihuman Technology (山东数字人科技股份有限公司), and was exhibited at the 2026 World Digital Education Conference global digital-education achievements exhibition. The university’s engagement with virtual human systems reaches back at least to 2016, when researcher Bian Yulong (卞玉龙) at the Weihai campus published early framework work on virtual reality and flow-state psychology, and its Confucian Studies Institute (儒学高等研究院) is among the co-developers of the Confucius digital human (孔子数字人) led by Shandong Digital Culture Group.
