Douyin (抖音), ByteDance’s short-video and livestreaming platform in mainland China, is run by Beijing Douyin Technology (北京抖音科技有限公司), formerly 北京微播视界科技有限公司, which was registered in March 2016. Its privacy policy names the company as Douyin’s operator, and it holds the ICP filing for douyin.com (京ICP备16016397号).

Douyin is a main venue for digital-human content and livestreams, and it sets rules for them. Since May 2023, virtual hosts (虚拟主播) must be registered with the platform before going live and their streams must be clearly labelled, and AI-generated content must carry a prominent label. In December 2025 Douyin was one of eight e-commerce platforms, with JD.com and Meituan among the others, that signed a commitment brought by the Beijing Consumers Association requiring merchants and creators who use AI-generated digital-human hosts or virtual scenes to label them “AI生成” in a prominent position.
