China Daily (中国日报), the national English-language newspaper, operates Yuanxi (元曦), unveiled on 14 October 2022 as the paper’s first digital employee under the staff ID CD20220001. Positioned as a “Chinese Culture Origin Explorer” (中华文化探源者), Yuanxi wears snow-patterned Chinese-style dress with a signature purple-streaked bob and fronts a video series exploring the roots of Chinese civilisation, from the Helan Mountain rock art onward. Built on Baidu AI Cloud’s Xiling (曦灵) digital human platform, she was presented at the 2025 China Positive-Energy Online Communication AI showcase in Nanning as the press industry’s first digital human dedicated to culture communication, and continues to publish culture explainers through China Daily’s online platforms. Yuanxi has her own Baidu Baike entry. China Daily keys to the public-institution legal person 中国日报社; a separately registered state-owned enterprise of the same name is the operating-company sibling and is not this record.
