Central Academy of Fine Arts (中央美术学院) is China’s national art academy and a supply-side creator of digital human personas and spaces for outside institutions. Design School professor Fei Jun’s (费俊) team designed Beijing City Library’s Metaverse Experience Hall, a five-zone immersive space that includes a digital human librarian area — selected among Beijing’s ten best culture-and-tourism technology application scenarios for 2024 and winner of a Vega Digital Awards interaction gold. Professor Wu Xiaomin’s (吴晓敏) Yuanmingyuan research team exhibited the Yuanmingyuan Little Princess digital human knowledge guide (圆明园小格格数字人知识讲解) alongside digital reconstructions of the Old Summer Palace at the 2024 CIFTIS. In the Digital Mei Lanfang project the academy produced the physically anchored 1:1 reference sculpture that SoulShell’s pipeline laser-scanned to recover base geometry and facial expressions, and a team connected to its Design School is credited with the creative role behind the “Lu Xun” digital human guide persona deployed for cultural-tourism interpretation. The academy also teaches the discipline: its graduate catalogue lists a research direction in artificial intelligence and digital human creation (人工智能与数字人创作研究) under professor Zhuo Fan (卓凡), and its museum has hosted student-curated exhibitions such as “Digital Avatar” (数字分身) interrogating AI identity.
