The Capital Library of China (首都图书馆) is Beijing’s municipal public library, registered together with the Beijing Children’s Library and the Beijing Ancient Books Protection Centre. It also operates Beijing City Library (北京城市图书馆), one of the three cultural buildings of Beijing’s sub-centre, which opened at the end of 2023 and has no legal person of its own.
Beijing City Library’s metaverse experience hall, designed by the team of Central Academy of Fine Arts professor Fei Jun (费俊), has three digital humans: AI Lu Xun (鲁迅), trained on a large language model to reproduce the writer’s appearance and tone, who guides readers, recommends books from the collection and introduces Beijing food and sights; Tutu (图图), a child digital human; and 2122, a future-styled digital human. The hall was named one of Beijing’s ten best culture-and-tourism technology scenarios of 2024.
