Beihang University (北京航空航天大学), the Beijing university of aeronautics and astronautics on Xueyuan Road in Haidian district, holds a granted invention patent on generating real-time conversational digital avatars with audio-visual perception (CN117475986B, filed July 2023). The method trains speech-synthesis, lip-sync and face-enhancement models on recordings of a real person, then drives an avatar of that person that answers users in real time.
With its Qingdao research institute it has also applied for a patent on generating a virtual character’s motion from speech (CN121414931A). In 2024 the university launched 小航 (Xiaohang), a private-domain large-model AI assistant presented as a digital human.
